Villas to rent in Pollensa, a trial through tradition

Pollensa is the most northerly municipality on the island, it has a lot of diversity within its landscapes thanks to the final 26 kilometres of the Sierra de Tramuntana. If you rent a villa in Pollensa, you will enjoy the area with the most coastline, creating a unique enclave between sea and mountains. The port of Pollensa also forms part of the municipality and borders with the municipalities of Alcudia, Escorca, Campanet and Sa Pobla.

Pollensa is a small idyllic town in the north of Mallorca filled with narrow streets that form part of the old town, it has a true Mediterranean feel. The foundations of Pollensa were built by the Arabs, but it was the Templar Knights who created the church which crowns the main square, named “Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles”. The church has a baroque style, whilst its bell tower is held up over an old defence tower from the 15th century. This area and its surroundings are filled with bars, restaurants and artisanal shops, making it an ideal place to start your visit.

What to visit in Pollensa

The Convent of Santo Domingo, which was built in the 16th century, was the home of Dominican monks and is currently the home of the Museum of Pollensa.

The Gardens of Joan March, located in the centre of the town, display a collection of exotic plants next to a gothic tower and the statue of Joan Mas, the hero that saved the Pollensans from the Moors.

The Roman Bridge is one of the most emblematic constructions of the town and it crosses the Sant Jordi stream, which is still in use today.

Spectacular views of Pollensa

If you’re looking for things to do in Pollensa, El Calvari is a great option. The access way to the church which is elevated over a small mound is spread across 365 steps, it can also be accessed by car. This construction dates back to the 18th century and has a statue of the Mare de Déu del Peu de la Creu which dates back to the 13th century. To end your journey in Pollensa, you can climb the Puig de Pollensa, a small mountain measuring 300 metres where you can see some spectacular views of the Sierra de Tramuntana and enjoy one of the best sunsets in the north of the island.

Enjoy the essence of Mallorcan gastronomy

To eat in Pollensa is to savour the essence of Mallorcan cuisine. The area offers an ample selection of restaurants, from local cuisine to international. If you want to try traditional home cooking we recommend that you try the Mallorcan “sopes” which are made with brown Mallorcan bread, vegetables and meat, or pa ambo li, the tumbet, brut rice, the trempó and vegetable coques, panades and cocarrois. Mallorca, also, has a great wine history and a great selection of liquors, such as the palo, sweet wine, traditional herbs, which are all served with ice in summer.

Artisanal shops in the centre of Pollensa

In the centre of the town there are an abundance of artisanal shops where you can buy traditional products such as the sobrasada, longaniza and the butifarrón. If you have more of a sweet tooth, we recommend that you try the ensaimada, the greixonera de brossat, the gató con alemndras, els robiols or the crespells, a typical dessert during Easter.
